Kyoto Arashiyama
We decided we didn’t get enough of Arashiyama, especially the hillside. A quick snack was a beef flavored hashbrown.
Seiko had this soy soup thing.
I had Cherry Blossom flavored ice cream
We visited the bamboo grove.
Jōjakkōji Temple 常寂光寺
This temple was constructed in 1596 and is well known for its moss and maple trees.
We climbed higher up the hillside and found another shrine.
We continued exploring the neighborhood.
Nison-in Temple
Constructed between 834 and 837
The shrines have trails to lead up the hillside to amazing views.
Near the top of the hill was a graveyard. Apparently a lot of royalty rest here.
We got back down to Saga Toriimoto Preserved Street and just walked around.
There were several low profile restaurants and shops. It’s a pretty peaceful area.
This shop had a diorama of something made out of silkworm cocoons
We stopped at Museum Rityō for ice coffee and some cookie. It costs $10.
We ended our hike along the ancient street at this gate, which seems to be at a restaurant.
We then had to backtrack down the street and through the bamboo grove, past all the tourist stuff and to the train.
