Miao Village

Morning view from the hotel balcony

Out for breakfast

Looking back up the alley leading to the hotel.

Wearing traditional Miao clothing.

A beef noodle soup. Nothing too heavy or spicy for a change.

Then off to explore the streets and alleys

A lot of the buildings along the main roads are modern, so we head up the hillside in search of some of the homes and structures that have been here for centuries.

One of the oldest buildings in the village. I forget how old. Old.

Back down to main street for lunch

Stirfried eggplant in brown sauce

Local pork disk. Mildly spicy.

Vegetable soup

Spicy fried potatoes

We head down one alley off of the main street and it’s beautiful.

We buy some glutenous rice from a vendor. She fills it with ground peanuts, sugar, and some other seasonings.

Very sweet and delicious.

There’s this pond/courtyard. Not many people around.

Some locals are playing this instrument called the Lusheng. It’s made from 5 or 6 bamboo pipes, reeds, and a hunk of hardwood and creates a polyphonic sound, similar to a bagpipe.

A stroll down the food vendor street again…

Peanuts and pigs feet.

I think she’s making glutenous rice.

This Moldy Tofu is a local dish.

Plucked out and fried, then smothered in condiments

Tasted horrible.
