Pandas and Chengdu Nightlife
Date with a Panda
Jing scores some tickets to actually hang out with a panda at the research base. The weather is also more tame, so we decide to spend the day there.
School field trip.
Normally they use the young pandas for this, because they ARE bears and have teeth and claws, but I guess they only had these juvenile bears available. They sat this guy on a bench and gave it an apple to occupy it.
Thankfully it took it’s time eating the apple and we were able to pet it and get several photos. Panda hair is coarse and dirty, and their skin underneath is all black. Those claws are sharp.
Look at how sad she is after we left.
This is an adult panda.
I shot some video and Jing cut it together for me.
Dinner at Yummy Tango
We go to this place off of Chunxi Street and it just blows my mind. For about $20/p we have a 6 course meal with a ton of options. It was the best meal I have had thus far… so we came back the next night.
Appetizers (no clue what those are)
Some gel with some tentacles in it. Gross.
Fruit with fruity sauce
Beef Soup.
Pumpkin soup.
Fillet Mignon
Brownie
Chunxi Street at night
Swensen’s? Sounds familiar but isn’t. I actually return next year and check it out.
I’m told this is a convent.
Jinli Street at night
We make it to Jinli a bit late so the shops are closing and the place is pretty empty. Great for photos!
Once you enter Jinli the tall traditional buildings and paper lanterns really make you feel like you stepped back in time. The crowds always bottleneck here to take photos.
On my first day I took a photo of those wish papers. I’m back.
hmmm.. you know what? I still have no idea what these things are.
This section has all the bars.
Fruit vendor outside of a traditional pharmacy.
I really have no idea what parts of what animal these dried meats are from.
